Mrs. Marla Brown
Owner/General Manager
"THE TEACHINGS OF ONE VIRTUOUS PERSON CAN INFLUENCE MANY; THAT WHICH HAS BEEN LEARNED WELL BY ONE GENERATION CAN BE PASSED ON TO A HUNDRED." -Kanjo Jigoro
Mrs. Brown is the owner of Ringside Martial Arts & Fitness. After meeting her husband Doc while they both were students at the College of William and Mary, Mrs. Brown saw first-hand the positive difference martial arts made in Doc's young life. Now, seven children later -all with a foundation in martial arts, Ringside Martial Arts & Fitness is more than a hobby, it has become a way of life. As a sound veteran martial arts practitioner, weapons expert and champion with an indomitable will, Mrs. Brown opened the flagship, state of the art, Ringside Martial Arts & Fitness as a tribute to the success of the students in the grueling national and international competitions. Believing in the reliable and practical teaching techniques of Dox Martial Arts, techniques become reflexive through every class, as students review previous techniques and learns new ones. The constant repetition coupled with concrete teaching strategies that inspire confidence and maturity (especially in troubled youngsters) and small class instruction with an individual focus has created a host of U.S. and World Champions alike. Law enforcement officials and the military are also members of Ringside, and believe in the techniques. One of the greatest benefits to becoming a member of Ringside is what many places have difficulty accomplishing: making friends in the process. Ringside Martial Arts & Fitness has been making friends since 1992.

Dr. Adolph Brown, III
Founder & Chief Instructor
"THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF KARATE LIES NOT IN VICTORY OR DEFEAT BUT IN THE PERFECTION OF THE CHARACTER OF ITS PRTICIPANTS." -Gichini Funakoshi
Having trained in martial arts since 1976, and after graduating from the College of William and Mary with multiple advanced degrees, Dr. Adolph Brown saw a profound need for the true teaching of character in the study of martial arts in his community. Now as a professional educator, a full tenured university professor, renowned author and academic dean, world traveler, clinical psychologist and seasoned fighter, Dr. Brown AKA "Doc", brings a wealth of real world fighting experience to Ringside. At the 2002 Virginia World Black Belt Hall of Fame ceremony, where Dr. Brown was awarded Master Instructor of the Year, Grandmaster E. Ray Spruill, 10th Dan Jiu-Jitsu, referred to Doc as one of the most complete and well-rounded martial artists he knows. Doc holds the rank of black belt in several martial arts: Shorin-Ryu Karate-Do (Sensei Oscar Wilder), Kung-Fu - Houquan & Praying Mantis & Tae Kwon Do (Master Marvin Waller), and Wushu - Black Tiger & White Crane (Sifus Joe Brown & Tee, Red Dragon Kung-fu society). As a dedicated athlete Doc has a background in Kickboxing (Louie Phillips & Bill “Superfoot” Wallace), Shootfighting (Bart Vale), Kenpo & Grappling (Sifu Dean Padrick), Gracie Jiu-Jitsu (Master Instructor Royce Gracie), Moo Duk Kwan (Master Ron Williams), Japanese Jiu-Jitsu (Grandmaster E. Ray Spruill), Amateur Boxing (Coaches Oscar Wilder & John Artis), Pool-Workouts (David Tua), and Wrestling (10 years NCWA). As a clinical psychologist, Doc teaches the world's toughest athletes to conquer fear. He is a much sought after trainer and corner man. Doc explains that he took bits and pieces from everything he has learned about athletic performance training, from training in the most brutal dojos in the world over 34 years - and put them together his own way. Dox Martial Arts is a well-respected system of FAP™ or Functionality, Application, and Practicality. Doc is known in martial arts' circles for taking you beyond the fight by stimulating your mind and body for peak performance on workout days and the day of competition. When he was a youngster on the fighting circuit, his then Okinawan Karate Sensei Noel Smith gave him the nickname “Thumper” which has followed him to today. Dr. Brown also has household name notoriety in the educational excellence and leadership development arenas as a Certified Master Teacher. www.docspeaks.com

Kyle Brown
Lead Instructor
Dox Karate-Do
"THE WAY OF THE WARRIOR IS A WAY OF LIFE AND CAN NEVER BE CONSIDERED AS A HOBBY UNLESS YOU ARE SEEKING ONLY TO IMPRESS OTHERS WITH YOUR TECHNIQUES." -Miyamoto Mushashi
Kyle is a solid tried and true MMA fighter and full-contact kickboxer with several national wins and an international contender. As one of 7 Dox Martial Arts black belts in North America (a system of martial arts that exists outside of parameters and limitations), Kyle is known as a "modern-day samurai" who methodically picks his opponents apart while honoring the spiritual and mental teachings of his lineage. He trains hard for battle, but respects all opponents and tries to learn as much as he can. He recognizes that training is one of the most neglected phases of athletics with too much attention given to the development of skill and too little to the development of individual participation. His train-fight-win-repeat philosophy is grounded in his belief that success depends on months of training that precede every competition. Kyle is known throughout the fighting community as "Have Mercy.” His "high-powered" and "endless gas tank" workouts leave nothing to chance. What Kyle puts in your arsenal will never leave the decision in the judges' hands again. His students learn to build functional power, speed, and explosiveness to fire off a concisive blow in a hair-trigger. Kyle is a brawler and a baller, with a university degree in recording arts/music engineering from Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida. (Kyle is also known as “Fowl” in the music industry)
